The young Jack Nicholson stars in this classic horror movie as a soldier, Lieutenant Andre Duvalier, officer under Napoleon troops who finds himself lost on the north German coast. There he is seduced by a beautiful and mysterious woman named Helene, who may or may not be a ghost. In his obsession to find who she was, he seeks shelter on a gloomy castle owned by Baron Frederick Victor von Leppe, who is a recluse haunted by the ghost of his dead wife.
But it would be wise to remember that whilst castle walls keep invaders out they are also ideal for hiding the sounds of gruesome activities within, their sinister secrets concealed from the world outside.
